North American Beef Congress Appoints Manager

London, ON - The Board of Directors of the North American Beef Congress (NABC) recently appointed Laurie Fisher of Fisher Communications, London, Ontario, as the new General Manager of the five-day event held October 25 - 29. Fisher took on the management responsibilities January 1 and is currently finalizing all scheduling, funding and operational details for the second annual NABC held at the Western Fair, London, Ontario.

One of the founding organizers of the NABC, Fisher's involvement in the cattle industry spans a lifetime. Growing up on a dairy farm in Wisconsin and graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a bachelor of science degree in Agriculture, she worked in marketing within the dairy industry and eventually moved to Canada and worked with her husband in his insurance brokerage as they began breeding Black Angus and Limousin Seedstock. More recently, she created and developed Fisher Communications, a marketing communications firm that caters mainly to agri-business.

"Visitors, exhibitors and sponsors will see some changes and additions in 2005," explains Fisher. "We are adding a Hereford show and sale and separate Red Angus show in the purebred section, additional breeds in the Top Meadow National Junior Heifer Show, and more educational seminars." "However the primary focus this year is the expansion of our Commercial Show. We want to appeal to the commercial producer by offering demonstrations, seminars and events that focus on post BSE beef production."

With the availability and use of the Agricultural Pavilion across the street from the newly built Agriplex at Western Fair, the Congress will house all the commercial cattle, display cattle, pens, the commercial heifer sale, demonstrations and some trade show exhibits at the Pavilion. The Agriplex will house the majority of the trade show, culinary events, seminars and purebred shows, sales and cattle. They will utilize the convenient underground tunnel for travel back and forth between venues.

Visitors and exhibitors can expect to find a variety of high quality educational seminars relating to current topics important to the beef industry, a junior exhibitor heifer show, a relocated trade show, several classes of commercial cattle, carcass competition, purebred sales and shows of Black Angus, Red Angus, Charolais, Hereford, Limousin and Simmental along with culinary and butcher competitions and events.
